Revolut Unveils AIR: An AI-Powered In-App Assistant for 13 Million UK Users
Revolut has officially begun rolling out AIR (AI by Revolut), its in-app artificial intelligence assistant, to 13 million customers across the UK. Launched on 9 April 2026, AIR introduces a conversational interface designed to simplify everyday banking by replacing complex, multi-step navigation with intuitive, chat-based interactions.
Users can access AIR by swiping down from the home screen or navigating through Profile → Chats → AIR. Once activated, the assistant enables a wide range of functions, including spending insights, investment tracking, subscription management, card controls such as freezing or unfreezing, and travel-related services like in-app eSIM purchases—all through natural conversation.
Privacy by Design
Revolut has emphasized a privacy-first approach in AIR’s architecture. The assistant operates under a zero data retention policy when interacting with third-party AI providers. It only accesses information already visible to the user within the app, such as transaction history, card details, and investment holdings. Any sensitive actions require biometric authentication before execution. The company has not disclosed the external AI providers powering the system.
Years in Development
The concept of an AI-powered assistant was first introduced by Revolut’s co-founders during the Revolutionaries event in November 2024. By mid-2025, UK CEO Francesca Carlesi signaled that the launch was imminent. To support this vision, Revolut established a dedicated internal AI division, hiring across roles in personal assistants, voice interfaces, and intelligent sales systems. AIR represents the first public product from this initiative.
Intensifying Competition in AI Banking
Revolut enters an increasingly competitive landscape. Starling Bank introduced a similar AI assistant in March 2026, followed closely by NatWest’s agentic assistant. Meanwhile, Barclays has partnered with Microsoft, NatWest with OpenAI, and HSBC with Mistral to accelerate their AI capabilities.
While Revolut may not be first to market, it holds a significant data advantage—processing over one billion transactions each month across a global customer base exceeding 70 million users. This scale could enable AIR to evolve beyond a simple interface into a deeply personalized financial intelligence layer, depending on how effectively it leverages this data over time.
The rollout is currently limited to the UK, with no confirmed timeline for expansion into other markets.
